I used to shoot JPEG, was convinced to switch to Raw for a few years and now I’ve been back to jpegs for last 2-3 years. So why??? my dirty little secret is I HATE editing photos!!! No specific reason I just don’t like spending time doing it.
BTW, I went to a Rockbrook Camera photo editing class taught by Jerred. Now 6 years later I still use 90% of the skills I learned that day!
I shoot jpeg 99% of the time. I love to spend my quality time clicking a camera rather than pushing a mouse. With Capture One, Photolab, or Lightroom I can tweak, crop, and post a good jpeg within minutes, and that suits me just fine.
I like your approach to jpegs. It seems like it’s given you more freedom and creativity in your photography.
I shoot mostly film but my scans are always jpegs not tiffs. I don’t overly edit them so I’ve never had an issue. I also admit that I’m not the most knowledgeable when it comes to editing.
I just might try your suggestions with my old Canon 60D. It might help me get out of my rut.
Bravo! I’ve been tuning in-camera JPGs for years and the current generation of bodies are finally there. I still shoot everything RAW+JPG but the raws are an in-case-of-fire-break-glass kind of thing.
Ken! Yes - this is the way, I think. I really think one of the differentiating aspects of photography going forward will be in the ways we can manipulate final jpegs in-camera! These jpegs are awesome!
Jerred, your work w/ jpegs and all the potential of the OM-3 is inspiring. I keep going back to your Chicago video, which was truly amazing work. I did a long bike ride yesterday on a rail-trail to the shore of Lake Michigan and took my OM-3 along to experiment. I'll put a couple of the jpegs in a note .. Keep on with your work!

Awesome shots Jerred! I have tried so many times to break myself of the habit but I can't. I just cannot accept a JPEG as it is. I seem to always want to tweak this or that and then I resort to the RAW file. I know my life would be so much easier. Maybe one day I'll get there, but after so many years of client delivery and printing large-scale, it's just a tough habit to break!
