This is such an important message! It's so easy to fall into the "shoulds" and I'm so sorry that comment made you stop doing the inspiring stuff. Your abandoned places photos are fantastic, and particularly that one with the old car in autumn with a puddle/pond in front of it is the most appealing image I've seen in a long time. I'm also very interested in abandoned places, objects and buildings, there's something deeply fascinating about them.

Where I live, golden hour sunsets and birds seem to be the thing you "should" be shooting. I find that incredibly boring but also have no idea what I WANT to shoot, since I've had to mostly abandon what I used to love (macro). I'm still in a slump with photography. Now I got inspired to actually find out what I want to do. Thanks for that! And keep shooting those abandon places!

Lots of déjà vu reading this — I grew up next door in Mid-Missouri, so those collapsed barns and grain elevators aren’t abstract to me. They’re Tuesday. But beyond the geography, you named something I’ve been fumbling toward in my own photography. Appreciated.

Jerred, Your philosophy is right in line with Lensbaby. Get a few of their products- The Sweet 35, The Sol 22, and find a Trio 28 for sure even used. They love people like you who write about their products- and they fit in with this article.
