Great stuff Jerred. I am of the misinformed opinion that a prime isn’t needed any more. I feel like it’s all about the sensor and software. Especially if the final lives online.
Yeah, things are kinda nuts, right? For me primes are still the best way to gather as much detail as possible for larger prints… but otherwise you’re kinda right. Software will be able to render those creamy backgrounds regardless of the lens… not there yet, but someday. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad…
So… it’s great, and there is better no walk around lens than this. The range is amazing and the lens is sharp in all situations. But the f4 isn’t great for low light when you want to freeze leaves in wind for instance. You can shoot static stuff at like 2 seconds on your shutter because of the incredible dual-sync IS… but that’s no good when stuff is moving!!! The 12-40 2.8 is a little better in those situations… but the trade off is a vastly lower focal range. Ha! You know the deal!
Yes, I do! I have yet to buy a MFT zoom. All my lenses are primes except for the old 75-300mm which is great for travel. So I'm thinking the 12-40 2.8 coupled with that and one street prime and my travel kit will be good. I don't shoot a ton of wildlife during travel unless I'm in FL or something!
Don’t get divorced, Robert! Any camera will do, right? I am always torn by how much I truly love bits of technology… versus the idea that we DON’T always have to buy something new. It’s tough!
Still new with the OM-3 myself, keep forgetting about the creative dial, thanks for sharing the images, have it set on my camera now and going to get a lot of use here soon with fall colors. Hopefully.

Beautiful images Jerred! I love them... how do you like the 12-100? Have you tried it in lower light as well?

You are spot on - perfect!!!! The 12-40 is fantastic, especially the close-focus!!!!!
Great post and images, Jerred! It's easy to see you had a fun day.
Thanks, Terry! It truly was - and almost 17,000 steps!!!!! I NEED THAT!
Gorgeous photos as always!
THANK YOU!!!
These are excellent photos. Cool camera, but my wife would divorce me.
