I enjoyed reading this. As a kid, my parents gifted me the Kodak Ektralite. I loved it until my mum gave it away. Four years ago, my wife bought me the Canon 1500D DSLR. I wasn't that serious about photography. I became serious mid-last year. Recently, I bought the Canon EOS R6 MARK III. I love my camera and the process of photography. It has taught me so much about myself and how I view the world. It's stories like this that I love reading about, even if it's nerding about camera brands. Also the back story.
My first "real" digital camera was the PEN-F. I still got it. Then the OM1-MarkII.Beat the shit out of it in the rain, in the mountains, in a riot, beneath a waterfall. It still ticks! And fast focusing! Moved to Fuji but recently picked up the OM again, and it felt so comfortable. Like an old tee shirt. I'm flirting with upgrading. I'm pleasantly surprised that the VC or whatever it was that bought out the system has continued to invest in it. It's an under-recognized system, probably because of the megapixel count. People want huge pixel counts. But...I will say...side by side...fuji vs oly...color...editablity....I love me my fuji. For me, I'd use the OM for the journalistic/meat-and-potato work. The fuji, for the art.
I’m quite behind and who knows if you’ll see this, Jerred, but congratulations! I found your OM-3 video a while ago, soon after I’d purchased mine, and it reinforced that I’d made the right decision. I had the OM-1 mk ii and ended up selling that, and a big telephoto (turned out I was a lousy bird/wildlife photographer), only keeping my 40-150 f2.8. Tech or no, the OM-3 just feels right! It’s light and it’s fun! I get folks come up d and say - whoa, you’re still shooting film? I almost want to say yes, since I can use settings to replicate film, but I tend to be honest. In any case, I really enjoy your content. It is different, and real in a way few other photography videos and blogs are. Maybe being a rep will bring you to the east coast sometime.
Thank you for all your kind words, and as always for your support. Yes, the OM-3 is an amazing machine. I have shot with it almost every day since the first day it came out, and I'm MORE excited to use it than ever. That's NEVER happened with a camera before - I feel like I'll never need anything else... until the OM-3II! :) HA! And I am honest as well. This last weekend someone noticed me shooting, and they were like: "whoah, that's a cool film camera" and I had to let them know it wasn't! But then, once I let them use it for a minute, they were in awe. So yeah, it's a fun, awesome machine that produces photos as good as any camera out there. And If I come out East, I'll let you know. I've been thinking/planning/talking to the fam about a trip out there sometime, so hopefully it'll happen fairly soon! Thank you again.
Many congratulations and best wishes for the future. PS I just love my OM3. There are enough features on this camera to keep me learning for years to come.
Congrats Jerred! And well deserved, I have to say. Since I've been reading your articles and watching your YouTube videos I've been seriously considering switching from Fujiflm to OM Systems. But I'm not sure which body would suit me the best. However, I did just buy a new car so a new camera system may be a ways off.
Thanks, Terry! When you're ready, let me know, and I can help! And at least your doing it the right way. Me? I buy the cameras first and let the car slide. NOT good practice! LOL! Thanks for your support from the very beginning. I appreciate it beyond words. YOU ROCK.
OM couldn’t have picked a more talented, generous and positive person than you, Jerred. Congratulations man. Really looking forward to this next chapter for you and really excited to see what you have in store! Make sure you celebrate and treat yourself to something nice
Thanks, Chris. Like I've said before, it's hard to accept this stuff sometimes. My wife said we were at least going out to dinner tonight to celebrate. So that will be fun! Thanks for being there!
Such great photos. This is so so cool, congrats! I’ve been thinking about an OM for a future camera, though I’m happy with my current camera. Really nice post
Thanks, Lex! I appreciate it - and if you've found a camera you're happy with, THAT IS WHAT MATTERS! I just happen to love tech - ever since I was a kid with all my computer stuff... I just love it. But mostly, I'm interested in creating cool art, having fun, and speaking my voice! Thanks again!
Congratulations Jarred!!! I’m so excited for you! And I’m not surprised in the least… I had a feeling they would approach you at some point. You’re an awesome evangelist and will be an even better ambassador. 🙌
That’s fantastic, congratulations. I have always used Olympus cameras and now OM, they are everything you’ve described. Light, fun to use, and produce great images.
I came across you while looking for color recipes for my OM3, love your content.

Thanks, PJ. Photography has taught me a lot about myself as well, and there is NOTHING wrong with nerding out about cameras!!!! I LOVE IT!

Excellent news, well done! I bought my OM3 inspired by your creative photography and recipes a while ago (and yes from a physical shop!).
