I’ve had my OM-3 since release day, and it never stops surprising me.
This year has been busy for photography, and it’s only now slowing down a bit, so when I have some time, you’ll likely find me picking up the OM-3 to continue to unlock it’s secrets!
Last night and this morning I’ve been testing a recipe I call “Eternal Sunshine” because it makes everything look saturated with a soft light, has some lower film-like contrast, and it’s fairly versatile. I think it’s awesome for the city and a fun option for (some) garden shots.
Here are two SOOC (straight-out-of-the-camera) jpegs using Eternal Sunshine (in completely different light)

(You’ll find more examples below!)
FIRST - a bit on how to do this! It’s really easy and powerful.
First step: Let’s rock the Creative Dial by choosing “COLOR.”
Then, click “OK” on the back of the camera to engage your camera’s super duper jpeg powers.
Choose “COLOR 2” and press “OK” again.
Under “COLOR VIVID” change your colors to these values:
- I’m borrowing your format for this:From the top of the color, starting at yellow and then clockwise:
Yellow: -1
Yellow Red: +4
Red: +2
Pink: +5
Magenta: +4
Pink Purple: +2
Blue Purple: +5
Blue: +3
Aqua: +2
Lime: +1
Lime Yellow: +4
Lime Yellow Yellow?: +4
The next screen contains the values for your curves. This curve is a funky one:
Shadows: +2
Mids: +6
Highlights: -1
Scroll down a little to change:
Sharpness: -2
Contrast: -2
THEN - go into white balance! Change it to Sunshine, then click “WB +/_ at the top.
Change these values (A7,M5)
THAT’s it! You’ve got it dialed in.
Now for the fun part. Go out for a walk, like I did for a few minutes using the new and awesome 17mm f/1.8ii:
I think this recipe SHINES in urban environments. Just love these.
It’s also amazing in the garden (although it’s worth experimenting - not all colors work here.)
(ALL Macro shots below were done with the 90mm f/3.5 PRO).
I have to say that as a photographer, I’m always looking for a way to push my photography forward.
Adjusting color for unique looks has a history going back to the invention of color film. I love how these create a soft, dreamy, glowing look.

I hope this recipe works for you, or at least inspires you to create your own!
Coming next is an AWESOME monochrome recipe I’ve been working on:

Have questions?
I was a former high school teacher for almost 20 years before I quit and became a professional creative dude!
That means I love questions and want to help - let’s do this TOGETHER and create some awesome jpeg recipes with the OM SYSTEM OM-3.

(JUST FOR FUN!) Here is one of our amazing outside kitties:
Sweet images, Jerred! I don't shoot JPG so unfortunately the feature is somewhat lost on me. I love everything else about the OM-3 though. That kitty is adorable btw.
I love seeing more recipes coming to life and LOVE the look of that monochrome so excited to see you share that as well!
